When rise started in 2011, it was originally a campus ministry. Over the years, it expanded to become the faith community it is today.

But true to our roots, Campus ministry is always at the heart of WHAT we do. Welcome to RISE U!

What is rise u?

RISE U is our college ministry! We know that finding a college ministry that is open, welcoming, and affirming can be a challenge, and RISE U is that ministry.

We believe in God's risk-taking love, life-changing grace, and open-armed acceptance. No matter what, you belong here. Whether you're queer, new to religion, or not religious at all, you are a gift.

Much of our ministry is made up of students at James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Bridgewater College. We also have several students who are from outside of the area, who grew up at RISE and went away for college, or who went straight to work after high school!

If you’re college-aged, RISE U is for you!

Our Mission Statement

RISE U is dedicated to creating a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming faith environment. Through social action, intentional community, and giving back to the community we are dedicated to creating an intersection of justice and faith.

Regardless of your faith experience, identity, or beliefs, you are welcome here with us.

What Does RISE U Have to Offer?

Lots of coffee, jokes, and maybe even the occasional bonfire.

Seriously though, RISE U does a myriad of social, service, and faith-based events and activities.

Despite the challenges the pandemic presented, we still had weekly (virtual) +Group meetings, service events with a local retirement community and the houseless population, and social(ly distanced) events on campus and around the area.

Current RISE U Weekly Events:

Tuesday Night +Group
This is our take on a "small group"! This semester, we are studying the book Staying Awake: The Gospel for Changemakers by Tyler Sit. Reading the book is totally optional - the leader will be turning each of the chapters into a weekly study for us.

Lunch Bunch
Join us from 11:30-12:30 for a student-led devotional and lunch break! Bring your own lunch or swing by D-Hall on the way to Taylor-Union 311 for this group.

Dinner Church
Starting September 11, we will begin hosting Dinner Church on the quad starting at 5:30pm. Expect some discussion around scripture, free dinner, and community! Come hungry, bring tupperware in case there's leftovers, and bring a friend!

Expect lots of love,
lots of community,
and LOTS of coffee breaks!
(or tea, or soda, or lunch)
